encore's hybrid study program

HYBRID PROGRAM
Encore’s Hybrid program gives students the opportunity to build their class schedule like a student in college would build a schedule. By definition, the hybrid program combines a variety of on campus and online independent study courses to create a student’s academic year. When a student decides to build a Hybrid Program, they will meet with their school counselor to lay out the entire academic plan for the student throughout their complete junior high or high school so each student knows what their detailed college plan will be.
-
Hybrid Block days – Students choosing a Hybrid schedule on block days would generally come to school only on Red days or only on Black days. (Red days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and every or every other Friday dependent on class schedule. Black days are Tuesdays, Thursdays and every or every other Friday dependent on schedule.)
-
Students can choose a variety of classes based on academic achievement and arts interests.
-
In general, students would choose four classes for the Hybrid block classes and two to four classes online using Encore’s independent study program. Students would complete one to two online classes at a time.
-
Students come to campus on their on campus days.
-
Students log on to online curriculum on their non campus days.
-
-
Hybrid mornings – Students choosing a Hybrid morning schedule would generally come to school only in the morning, up to the first two classes of each day.
-
Students can choose a variety of classes that take place on campus, one to two each morning for up to four classes.
-
Students would then choose two to four classes to complete online using Encore’s independent study program. Students would complete one to two online classes at a time.
-

-
Hybrid afternoons – Students choosing a Hybrid afternoon schedule would generally come to school only after lunch, up to the last two classes of each day.
-
Students can choose a variety of classes that take place on campus, one or two each afternoon for up to four classes
-
Students would then choose two to four classes online using Encore’s independent study program. Students would completed on to two online classes at a time.

IS Coordinator will track participation and academic progress for the purposes of recording attendance.

Students are still required to "come to school" every school day as hybrid students. Coming to school can be:
-
Physically coming to campus and participating in classes or working in the independent study lounge.
-
Logging on at home for online curriculum.

Grading Online Coursework:
-
Any courses that a student is finishing online will not show up on the regular grading window (Aeries).
-
Students will receive written progress reports via email from their IS Coordinator at least every two weeks to show progress.
-
Upon completion of the online coursework, students will have the grade for that class added directly to their transcript.
-
When an update is made to the transcript, a copy of the updated transcript will be emailed to both the parent and the student.

The Encore Difference:

TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM
In order to remain innovative in education, Encore is seeking to build all academic classrooms as technology based headquarters where courses can be scheduled and viewed by traditional, hybrid, and independent study students on and off campus.
TELEVISIONS:
Using the technology available for education, each classroom will be equipped with three separate television screens.
-
First television will be equipped for projections, like a Smart-Board
-
Second and third television will be equipped for real time viewing of what is being recorded or broadcast
-
Teachers will be required to pre record "emergency sub plans" so substitutes will be able to play a teacher's lesson plan in the absence of the teacher.

STREAMING TECHNOLOGY:
Using Zoom Technology, Encore will stream and record lectures given by teachers in every class.
-
Students enrolled in classes will receive periodic emails to let them know what lectures are coming up and when they can tune in to watch them live.
-
Students will be able to log in to the live feed to take part in real time to watch the lectures on their computers or on their smart TV from home.
-
For students that log in to the live feed, they will be able to ask questions in real time via chat. The teacher will assign an in class student to ask questions that come up from remote students.
-
Students would be able to log into streaming courses every time based on the recording schedule. They would also have the opportunity to log in to classes and lessons taught by more than one teacher.

RECORDED TECHNOLOGY:
Encore's teachers will download recorded sessions and make them available on their Google classrooms so students can rewatch or makeup missed classes.
-
Having most lectures uploaded to Google classrooms will give students the opportunity to view lectures out of class.
-
Students will be able to rewind lectures.
-
Students will be able to stop lectures.
-
Students will be able to replay lectures.

ENCORE'S YOUTUBE RECORDED DATABASE:
During the initial Covid-19 stay at home orders, Encore recorded all live sessions that were offered by teachers. During the 20/21 school year, teachers and instructors will be able to use this recorded database (almost 3,000 classes were uploaded) for extra credit, sub plans, and homework help for students.

CULTURE AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENCORE HYBRID/INDEPENDENT STUDY STUDENTS:
-
Students enrolled in Encore’s Hybrid or Independent Study programs get to experience the opportunity to drop into classes as they need.
-
Students can sign up to be a part of the arts programs
-
Encore’s ASB will invite IS and Hybrid students to take part in all Encore activities through daily announcements and special emails sent to their student email account.
-
Students have the opportunity to audition for productions, special projects, and teams that happen on the Encore campus. ALL TEAMS ARE OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS OF ENCORE: TRADITIONAL, HYBRID, OR INDEPENDENT STUDY.
-
Hybrid and IS students are also invited to take part in any and all field trips that they would qualify to attend and any and all on campus competitions.

Getting Started:

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:
Encore’s Hybrid Study program gives students the opportunity to engage in an innovative academic program while living within the specific and various needs of students. As a Hybrid Study Program Student, the following will happen to get started:
-
Student and parent will meet with Encore’s Enrollment Manager to enroll in the school. They will select hybrid study as the academic program at Encore.
-
Once enrolled, student will meet with their school counselor to create an academic plan that will help the student achieve graduation during the Encore six year plan.
-
Student will be assigned an Independent Study Coordinator that will help them with academic progress on their non seat-based courses.
-
Students will meet with their Independent Study Coordinator every week in person or via Zoom to get academic progress updates, pickup books, take tests, schedule labs, and talk about curriculum help that is needed.
-
The Independent Study Coordinator will provide the student with a pacing plan for their academic schedule.
-
Independent Study Coordinator will send emails to parents and students at least bi-weekly to document academic progress.
-
-
A credentialed teacher in the appropriate subject will oversee and grade the courses for the online classses that the student is enrolled in.
-
Hybrid students will take one online class at a time and will be required to finish about one unit every seven school days. Students should complete a semester (5 units) every six weeks to make minimum academic progress on their online courses while completing their seat-based classes.
-
For the first class that is taken online, IS students are only allowed to take one course so they can establish their own routine for completing coursework in an online, independent study model.
-
If the Hybrid student is making excellent academic progress after completion of their first semester course, they will be allowed to take two courses at a time.
-
-
Students will record when they participate in a seat based class or come on campus, signed off by the IS Coordinator, teacher or classroom aide.
-
Students will record when they log in to a streaming or recorded lecture.
-
IS students are allowed to come on campus for seat based, traditional classes to gain additional help if available as a “Drop in” student if desired. (Not allowed if the student was placed on IS as a discipline action.) IS Coordinators will coordinate tutoring, online, and in person help.

ACCELERATED ACADEMIC PROGRESS:
Students enrolled in the Hybrid Study program at Encore can work at an accelerated progress rate and are able to work throughout the year on academic courses. While students can only take up to two classes at a time, they can complete their units at an accelerated rate. Students completing a course ahead of academic progress rates (less than six weeks for a semester class on Hybrid program) can immediately enroll in the next course. Students using break time (fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks) can also move through courses quicker. Students working at an accelerated pace can graduate early and/or choose to take additional academic classes to make college applications more attractive. Some students complete their academic courses ahead of schedule so they can take more arts classes and deepen their Career Technical Arts Education.

LACK OF ACADEMIC PROGRESS:
Students enrolled in the Hybrid Study are required to check in at least once a week via Zoom or in person to meet with their Independent Study Coordinator. Students must show that they are making appropriate academic progress.
-
If a student is not making academic progress (at least one unit every seven school days for hybrid), the student will then be required to check in with their independent study coordinator to plan their hybrid day.
-
When they are on campus, they will be benched from elective classes and required to study in the independent study lounge until they catch up.
-
They will have three weeks to catch up on their academic progress.
-
If after three weeks, the student is not making appropriate academic progress, they will be placed on academic probation and given three additional weeks to catch up on their academic progress.

ACADEMIC PROBATION:
-
If placed on academic probation, the student will be required to contact their IS Coordinator via Remind every morning to check in.
-
The IS Coordinator will give the student the assignments that they need to complete that school day to get back on track.
-
After completion of the assignments given by the IS Coordinator, the student will Remind the IS Coordinator to let them know that they have made the appropriate academic progress.
-
The student will remain on Academic Probation for the period of one academic quarter or until they have regained the appropriate academic progress pace.
-
If the student fails to follow through on their academic probation, the student will be required to move from hybrid study to the full time, seat-based program.
