Back to School Prepping: County Stats and Attendance Link


Today's blog is taking care of some important housekeeping as we are preparing for school to start next Monday. As families are preparing by attending device day to get novels and Chromebooks, I wanted to spend a couple of minutes today to share the snapshot of where we are so all of our families are on the same page.


First, San Bernardino County continues to be in the purple category for positive cases of Covid. That means that schools are still not allowed to open for in person instruction. In order for moderated in person instruction to start, San Bernardino County needs to be moved into the red category. You can help curb the spread of the virus by wearing a mask, social distancing, staying home when you are sick, and washing your hands frequently. Encore is opening on Monday, September 14th for distance learning. There is a technology training for parents this Thursday at 4 pm on Zoom. I will continue to give COVID-19 updates to make sure that we are all on the same page. With this piece of information, remember that we have also delayed the start of bus transportation to tentatively be on December 1. Stay tuned as we continue to follow the state orders.


ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION

 

In yesterday's blog, https://www.encorehighschool.com/post/new-year-attendance-requirements, I went into detail on how students will complete schoolwork and gain attendance verification on a daily basis through this start of the school year. Completing schoolwork on a daily basis is a big concern for everyone and Encore wants to make sure that our students succeed even in this adverse time. Working together to strengthen daily attendance is key to our students' success.


To summarize this plan, students should be logging in to their "real time" zoom sessions and complete attendance during their classes. When "life" happens and that is not a viable solution, students should log in to the recorded class session to complete the classes during the same school day. For attendance purposes, students and parents need to verify that students have completed academic coursework every day, even if it is at midnight.


To verify attendance, Encore has added an attendance verification form on the encorehighschool.com website that will allow people to verify attendance quickly. You can find this attendance verification form in the bottom margin of the website and also on the parent link under attendance verification.


When you complete this form, it is turned in to the attendance office and attendance will be counted. Completion of work can be verified by a parent or a student. When you do not complete work on a designated school calendar day, that is counted as an absence. When an absence occurs, parents/guardians are required to clear that absence with one of the state designated absence reasons. Absences can be cleared by calling our office 760-956-2632. However, ANY COMPLETION of work at home during a calendar school day can be verified by filling out this form. Any day that you complete schoolwork, whether it is a school day or not should be notated by completing this form.


It is time to create good habits and work every day for academic success. Attendance matters so make every day count and complete this attendance form.
