Copy of As seen on "Shark Tank" Mural Design

There are so many unpainted walls in the world. As a visual artist, you might see these walls as an opportunity for endless unpainted canvas. There are a couple ways that you can approach these canvases. You can artistically paint them illegaly in the middle of the night, or you can turn that empty canvas and your artistic talent into a career.

"Mural Painter Inc." was a business on ABC's "Shark Tank" recently (May 1, 2020) and they have been able to charge an average of $15,000 for a mural to be painted using their service. Murals are big business, and for artists that are working to support their artistry and make money before they die, this is a way to keep your hands in the paint while making a living. "Mural Painter Inc." has been in business for over a decade painting the walls.

In a world where the concrete jungle is more and more prevalent, painting murals brings life to lifeless buildings. They help a business build character to their business and they give business the opportunity to build the selfie moment for patrons and for passers by. Murals can be painted indoors and outdoors. They can enhance counters, bare walls, or huge walls that can otherwise make a building look stark. Artists that also have a business sensability can build a career and a life around painting these blank canvas walls.

In the fall of 2020, Encore High School will be offering for the first time an A-G approved fine arts course in Mural Design. Artists that take this course will learn how to build and develop interesting murals that make heads turn. This course, under the direction of Ms. Alejandra Gomar, a local artist / curator / credentialed teacher, will help students take on large projects and offer tools to turn their paint into a career.

Mural Design can be a lucrative business for students. The course will take the students through a variety of projects over the course of the school year. This is part of a career technical education module that focuses on artists that excel in drawing and painting.

"Mural Week" is an event held during the first weeks of school at Encore High School where the entire school is invited to come and paint. The murals are pre-drawn, so the students and staff of Encore can use this week to paint like a big paint by numbers book. This was started in 2019 when four new murals were added to the campus. This event, celebrating arts and paint creates 3D murals that advertise the upcoming free events on campus. It also helps people fall in love with paint whether or not they are an artist.

The best thing about a mural? They are always on display. It doesn't require a visit to a museum or gallery to see the artwork of the painter of. Murals consistently become a part of scrapbooks and social media, so the artist ends up brightening someone's day. The can also make a statement for the "regular people." You don't have to be an art critic to get a feeling from a mural. They are everywhere so you don't have to search to find the art either. Artists can even have their mural trademarked so they can get royalties for things like album covers when people use their art as a backdrop for a different project.

Mural painting is the career for students that love to paint. Artists can color the world, one blank wall at a time.
