As a charter school, Encore has habitual reporting and rules that have to be followed in order to operate as a state and federally funded public school. One of these is the charter renewal process. Encore Educatoin Corporation is a nonprofit organization that operates a charter school that has a six member school board. This entire operation is authorized to operate in Hesperia under the oversight of Hesperia Unified School District.
Encore was first chartered to operate in 2008, with the school opening 08/08/08. Encore was voted for operation unanomously by HUSD to open on a three year term. At the conclusion of that term, Encore was renewed unanomously by HUSD to operate for an additional five years, followed by a subsequent term for five years that was again renewed unanomously by HUSD. Encore's current term expires in June of 2021.
Encore submitted the renewal petition to the Hesperia Unified School District a short time ago for the request of another five year term. Based on the state of California's new laws that went into effect in January of 2020, Encore qualifies as a middle tier school academically and is eligible for another five year term renewal. On Monday, Encore will present the renewal petition to the HUSD school board in their board meeting via Zoom. The subsequent vote for the charter to continue will be held in December prior to December 18.
Encore invites stakeholders to please take a moment this weekend to send your positive stories to the school board and the district to let them know that you support the work that Encore has been doing in the high desert for the last twelve years. They need to know that we have a family base that is interested in seeing our operations continue as a legacy in the high desert.
