Today is a very exciting day for us here at Encore. We have been working very hard throughout the Covid stay at home orders to make sure that our students can still get the best academic program, no matter what the pandemic and the world throws at us. Today, parents and students can get an inside look at the platform that our teachers and administration have been working on to make sure student centered education can happen in a variety of ways.
When we started distance learning back in April, Encore also launched a new website encorestudent.com. This website served as our "TV Guide" style programming guide for our students during the enrichment portion of last school year. This web site was innovative and incredibly helpful for our students in such a transitional time for education. It really helped our distance learning become guided and formalized with technology. This updated site will be a permanent version of the original that gives students a step by step guide on completing their courses through technology.
As you take time to visit the academic platform that Encore will be using in just a couple weeks, I would like to point out a few really neat features of the site itself. On the homepage of the site you can read our new goals for the school year and our beliefs. As always, there are no fees for Encore as an Encore student, but we wanted to share with you what we have found in our months of research for comparable programs. We are proud of our offerings for our school.

For most of the courses, you will be unable to enroll into them as a user. The school will enroll you into the courses that you need from the back end so everyone is on the same page at the same time. The course will be "drip fed" which means that your teacher will release portions of the course as the class is ready to cover them.
To gain insight into what the courses will look like, there are six or seven courses that the first few slides and activities have been shared as a "Preview Course." Anyone can sign up for the preview courses to see what our teachers have been creating. When you search the course catalog, you can search the word preview to get a full listing of the courses that you can view.

When you click on the course catalog, you will be able to see the extensive list of courses offered by Encore. There are some FREE courses that are being offered from the counseling department to help our students work their way through high school and appropriately prepare for graduation. For parents, we recommend taking a look at the three following courses to help your student maximize their high school experience:
- Graduation Toolkit
- Graduation House Cord Certification
- Masters Conservatory Certification
Graduation Toolkit - Is a step by step worksheet/toolbook that will help explain what it takes to meet the minimum Encore graduation standards and the minimum A-G requirements to qualify for college admissions.

Graduation House Cord Certification - Our seniors love to have swag on graduation day. This course is a step by step worksheet toolkit that will help explain what it takes to earn a house cord for graduation. This takes all of the guesswork out of the senior year planning for this distinction. It includes the critical dates for submission for this certification as well. This course should be started at the beginning of the senior year so there are no surprises.

Masters Conservatory Certification - This is the highest honor that a senior can earn on graduation day for their arts conservatory. This course is a senior project in career readiness and how to build college portfolios. When a student earns the Masters Certification in their conservatory, they receive a stole that represents their conservatory and a plaque during the graduation ceremony. This course includes all of the critical dates for submission and lists all of the parts that have to be completed to earn this distinction. Juniors and Seniors should be working on this certification course to make sure there is plenty of time to complete it.

Now that the site is live, you can have the opportunity to see the course catalog and what is in store for Encore students this fall. We have taken this very strange time and have turned it into an opportunity for transformation. Admittedly, we are still working on the site every day and we still have things to update and a lot to do, but we couldn't wait to share with the world the innovation and metamorphosis that Encore has dedicated the summer to. We are proud of our accomplishments and what our students will be able to use as learning tools this fall, no matter what program or what craziness may come our way. We wanted to make sure that we were prepared.
Other things to know: As you visit the site, you will see abbreviations on course names that you will have never seen before. Most likely, those abbreviations have to do with the State Course Codes for Encore's now formalized career technical education program. I wanted to share with you what they mean so you can be "in the know" while looking at our course catalog.
AME - Arts, Media, Entertainment
FID - Fashion Interior Design
HTR - Hospitality, Tourism, Recreation
We are still building courses and more courses will be added to the encorestudent.com website as we continue with our tremendous growth.
Other Features of the site: On top of being the base learning platform for every course offered on campus, it also has additional features that students will be able to visit. On the Daily News button, students will be able to have instant access to daily blogs and archived blogs for Encore.

There is a Community section where students will be able to ask homework questions among peers and earn badges for interaction and engagement between students for homework help.

On the Best Resources page, students will be able to have access to resources like past tutorial Zoom sessions and links to digital textbooks.

Now that we have a "ready to go" product that we can share with our parents and students, I wanted to once again thank the Encore amazing teaching staff for all of their hard work this summer. In this time when some people have chosen to turn this into one very long extended holiday, Encore's teaching staff buckled down and worked very hard to make sure that our students would be able to continue to receive the quality education that they need and deserve. Our teaching staff is a bunch of rock stars.
In the coming weeks, our IT department is going to be impacted with helping to implement the new system. While it looks like it is going to be straightforward, I am asking that parents and students exercise grace and patience as we roll out this new school year under a mountain of new guidelines and uncontrollable variables. There will be hiccups and we will be dedicated to help everyone get through the hiccups with as little heartache as possible. Thank you in advance for your understanding. With growth comes growing pains.
If you missed yesterday's blog and have not already picked your classes, please do so today. The link on the website will be active for only 9 more days and we want to make sure that all of our families are properly supported. https://www.encorehighschool.com/copy-of-admissions
We are excited for a great year. Thank you for your ongoing support of youth arts and thank you for your ongoing support of Encore High School.
