Junior High Students in a High School World

There are a quite few junior high students that are going to be taking high school conservatory classes this year. Congratulations! In order to get into a high school conservatory arts class you needed to:

  1. Sign up for an audition for the conservatory.

  2. Showed up and completed a conservatory audition.

  3. Passed the audition, being placed in at least a level I conservatory class within a conservatory.

For junior high students that successfully auditioned into a high school class, you will be placed in high school conservatory classes in your schedule. As you can see above, high school only sees four classes a day, while junior high sees 8 classes every day.

In high school on A days (Mondays and Wednesdays) students go to their period 1,2,3, and 4 classes.

In high school on B days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) students go their period 5,6,7, and 8 classes.

For junior high students that are accepted into a high school art conservatory class, you will be taking your art classes from the high school art teachers. When you look on your schedule, you should see the words (HS Conservatory) on your schedule. The courses will be placed in two period blocks for two high school conservatory classes.

If your HS Conservatory class is marked on your junior high schedule as periods 1 & 2, you are in the pink section of this chart. During periods 1 & 2 on your junior high schedule you will:

  1. On Mondays and Wednesdays, you will go to high school class period 1

  2. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will go to high school class period 5

If your HS Conservatory class is marked on your junior high schedule as periods 3 & 4, you are in the blue section of this chart. During periods 3 & 4 on your junior high schedule you will:

  1. On Mondays and Wednesdays, you will go to high school class period 2

  2. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will go to high school class period 6

  3. After your HS arts class is done, you will go to lunch.

If your HS Conservatory class is marked on your junior high schedule as periods 5 & 6, you are in the yellow section of this chart. During periods 5 & 6 on your junior high schedule you will:

  1. On Mondays and Wednesdays, you will go to high school class period 3

  2. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will go to high school class period 7

If your HS Conservatory class is marked on your junior high schedule as periods 7 & 8, you are in the pink section of this chart. During periods 7 & 8 on your junior high schedule you will:

  1. On Mondays and Wednesdays, you will go to high school class period 4

  2. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will go to high school class period 8

Your junior high counselor, Ms. Candice Carter ccarter@encorehighschool.com has emailed you what your high school conservatory classes are and when they will occur. Starting on Monday, follow the chart above to be able to take junior high academic classes while you are also taking high school arts conservatory classes.

It may seem scary, but you will get the hang of it in a couple days. For those of you that want to be in a high school arts conservatory class but either did not audition or did not qualify, Encore's art department will start auditioning students for the 21/22 school year in January. You cannot move into a high school conservatory class without first passing an audition.

I hope that this information is helpful. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask your arts teachers. They will do their best to help you.

Have a great weekend!
