New Year Attendance Requirements

Encore starts school on September 14th. School for everyone around the world started differently this year. Based on the current benchmarks in San Bernardino County, Encore is starting with Distance Learning for all Traditional, Hybrid, and COVID Distance Learning family choice programs. Independent Study is starting as planned. This means that the way that attendance has been historically taken is also going to change this year. It is important that everyone is on the same page so we can support our students for success. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The California Department of Education released new guidelines on how attendance will be taken this school year. Encore's student information system (Aeries) is rolling out updates to the platform to make sure that their schools can stay in sync with the entire state of California. When Encore starts school next Monday, students will be accounted for with the following codes:

-100 - No Participation/Absent

-200 - In Person Instruction

-300 - Student or Parent/Guardian Contact

-400 - Assigned Work Submitted /Assessment Completed

-500 - Other

Even though our students will be taking their classes in a variety of ways, it is still mandatory that every students engages in active learning every calendar school day. Today, I wanted to take a couple minutes to outline exactly what that means.

Traditional, Hybrid, and COVID Distance Learning Students

The ideal school experience for you will be that you are logging onto your classes in real time. Plans to have you log on when your teachers are starting their lectures at the normal class time would be the ideal scenario. When you log on to the teacher lecture in real time, your teacher will prompt you to sign in with your name in the chatbox. Teachers will then print the chatbox and take their attendance according to everyone that signed in during the real time class. (This would be counted as 200/In Person Instruction.)

We are very aware of bandwidth and connectivity issues that are happening across the board from neighborhoods to just more than one sibling trying to be online at the same time. Don't panic! We have the support for you. For students that cannot log in "Real Time" will have the opportunity to watch teacher instruction after the completion of the original session by accessing the Google classroom. One class from each day will be available for ten days. When a student watches the instruction on the same day and then either the student or the parent sends a Remind to their teacher to let them know that they have completed watching the assignment for the day, that will count as attendance for that school day. (This would be counted as 300/ Student or Parent/Guardian Contact.)

For Independent Study Students - You gain attendance when you turn in assigned work to Google classroom or complete assignments on CyberHigh or Encorestudent.com. (This would be counted as 400/ Assigned Work Submitted/Assessment Completed.) You must log in and complete work every day that school is in session.

It is critical that every student does schoolwork every school day.

WE NEED PARENT PARTICIPATION TO MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENTS ARE COUNTED!

1. Every day, we need parents to make sure that their students are logging on and completing work.

2. Remind your children to sign in to classes and to send Reminds to their teachers when they miss real time class.

3. When you student misses "Real Time" study, please fill out the contact form on the website so your student can be counted. It is in the bottom margin of encorehighschool.com

In order to insure student academic success, attendance is a key component. Since school is completely different than it ever has been, we need to make sure that everyone is working together to make this a success. Thank you for our time and consideration. We appreciate your support.

We are excited for a great year. Thank you for your ongoing support of youth arts and thank you for your ongoing support of Encore High School.
