We are in week three of distance learning and we still have a lot of questions that are popping up regarding "how to" distance learning for technical outlets. In junior high, it can be even more challenging if you came from a school where technology was not infused into the daily curriculum.
Encore hosted a technology training for parents and an orientation for students, but we did this prior to the year starting and before students were actually touching their technology on a daily basis. Now that technology is a daily occurrence, students have new questions regarding their technology. This is slowing down the process during their academic classes and in some cases is leaving teachers playing the role of IT.
To support the questions and infuse help where help is needed, Encore is going to host to technology training meetings this Friday by grade level. These trainings will walk students (and parents) through what is needed for technology and how to succeed with Distance Learning. Go to zoom.us and type in this passcode to get in. You will need to use your student's Encore email address to participate.
7th Grade - 8:30 am: 995 2666 0765
8th Grade - 10:00 am: 974 8758 1855
9th/10th Grade - 12:30 pm: 985 4474 8619
11th/12th Grade: 2:00 pm: 943 7050 4404
Passcodes for all meetings: GOPIRATES!
These meetings will be in place of your regular scheduled programming at your specific time slot on Friday. Encore feels that understanding the technology supersedes the regular Friday programming this week.
PARENTS - Please check on your students to make sure that they are logging in to all of their classes every day. We are getting feedback from parents that their students are on the computer "at school", but our records do not coordinate that claim. Please make sure that they are logging in to their assigned classes and not "their friend's class." They have a full bell schedule day. We are trying to make sure that our students are in class whenever possible. If they are completing the day's work after hours (asynchronous), they will need to fill out the absence verification form on the website to certify their attendance. ZOOM CLASSES - Starting on Monday, October 12, 2020 - students are going to be required to turn on their screens during their Zoom classes. Our teachers have requested this to make sure that students are engaging in their classes. For students that are enrolled in any arts class, they should already be doing this in those classes. We are having issues in classes like vocal arts where students are refusing to sing in class virtually. If participation in the arts class is an issue for any reason, we suggest dropping the lab class until full return to the in person class can happen. Students can still complete the Career Technical Arts portion of the class online, but will no longer take part in the actual lab class. If you want to drop a lab class, please let your teacher know and they will work with counseling to support you.
GET A REMINDER WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LOG IN TO CLASSES - Encore has set up a way for students to get a reminder on their phone every time they are supposed to log in to class. Parents, this might also help you keep on top of them to make sure they are logging in at the right time. STEP BY STEP - HOW TO ADD ENCORE BELL SCHEDULE TO GOOGLE CALENDAR 1. Click the link for the corresponding Bell Schedule you would like to be added. High School Bell Schedule - https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/1?cid=Y19qdWJmb2gxcTNrMTZibW9iNjlwcmVkYXNyMEBncm91cC5jYWxlbmRhci5nb29nbGUuY29t Junior High School Bell Schedule https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/1?cid=Y183NWg1cWhjYXFwbXBxMDUyb2RxM243YjhxNEBncm91cC5jYWxlbmRhci5nb29nbGUuY29t 2. To set a reminder notification, click the linked “Bell schedule” tab (either HS or JHS Bell Schedule) found on the left. A drop down menu should appear. Next click “event notifications” and click “add notifications” to adjust a reminder alert before the events. Default time is 10 minutes, but this can be changed to whatever you prefer. *TIP: Make sure the checkbox next to the bell schedule is checked in order to make events visible on your calendar.
